San Diego – Beyond Legoland and Sea World

When my girls were in grade school they were really into triathlons and so we found ourselves travelling one year to San Diego for the Junior National Competition. Within minutes of landing, both girls were questioning our parental wisdom. Why, they asked, would we ever live in Texas - with its heat and humidity and flat terrain - when a paradise like San Diego existed? We struggled to give them a good answer other than our jobs were in Texas and remote work was not an option at the time. So, it came as no surprise when time for college, our eldest chose to attend the University of California, San Diego. Her time at UCSD gave us, as parents, four glorious years to explore the area and discover there is so much more to San Diego than the typical vacation guides suggest.
